Service Description

Professional Under-Cabinet Range Hood Installation in Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cobb, Fulton and Forsyth Counties

Guaranteed to have your new under-cabinet range hood up and running! Arcitech Logistics provides expert under-cabinet range hood installation services throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. Under-cabinet range hoods mount underneath existing cabinets above your cooktop or range, providing efficient ventilation in a space-saving design. Our experienced technicians ensure proper 110V electrical connections, secure cabinet mounting, ductwork connections, and comprehensive testing in Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cobb, Fulton, and Forsyth counties.

IMPORTANT: Existing Venting Direction Cannot Be Changed

Existing venting direction (inside vs. outside) cannot be changed as part of this service. If your current hood vents to the outside (ducted), your new hood must also be ducted to the same ductwork. If your current hood recirculates air (ductless), your new hood can be ducted (if ductwork exists) or remain ductless. Adding new ductwork is an additional service (additional charge $500-2000+ depending on distance and complexity).

Advantages of Under-Cabinet Range Hoods:

Space-Saving Design - Mounts underneath existing cabinets, doesn't protrude into kitchen space, maintains cabinet storage above

Easy Installation - Simpler than wall-mount or island hoods, cabinet provides mounting structure, no wall reinforcement needed

Affordable Option - Less expensive than wall-mount hoods, lower cost installation, good value for standard kitchens

Standard Electrical - Uses simple 110V electrical, can plug into regular outlet, no special electrical required

Good Ventilation - 300-600 CFM adequate for most cooking, effective for standard residential use

CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) measures ventilation power:
- 200-300 CFM: Light residential cooking (basic meals, occasional cooking)
- 300-400 CFM: Standard residential cooking (daily cooking, moderate heat)
- 400-600 CFM: Frequent cooking (heavy cooking, high heat, multiple burners)
- 600-900+ CFM: Professional-style cooking (often better in wall-mount or island hoods)

Rule of Thumb: Your hood should provide 100 CFM per linear foot of cooktop width. For a 30" (2.5 feet) cooktop: 250 CFM minimum. For heavier cooking or gas ranges, multiply by 1.5-2x.

Ducted (External Venting) - MORE EFFECTIVE:
Advantages:
- Removes cooking fumes, smoke, moisture OUTSIDE
- More effective ventilation
- No filter replacement needed (just clean metal mesh)
- Better for heavy cooking
- Removes heat from kitchen
Disadvantages:
- Requires existing ductwork or new installation
- More complex installation
- Outdoor vent cap needed
- Can lose heated/cooled air

Ductless (Recirculating) - EASIER INSTALLATION:
Advantages:
- No ductwork required
- Easier/cheaper installation
- Can be installed anywhere
- No outdoor vent needed
- Retains heated/cooled air
Disadvantages:
- Less effective (doesn't remove, just filters)
- Charcoal filters must be replaced (4-6 months, $20-40)
- Doesn't remove heat or moisture
- Not as good for heavy cooking
- Ongoing filter costs

Recommendation: Ducted is preferred if ductwork exists or can be reasonably added. Ductless is acceptable for light cooking or when ductwork is not feasible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does under-cabinet range hood installation take in the Atlanta area?
Most under-cabinet range hood installations take 1.5-3 hours, including disconnection of old hood, removal, cabinet mounting preparation, hood installation, 110V electrical connection, ductwork connection (if applicable), and airflow testing. First-time installations or those requiring electrical outlet installation may take 2-4 hours.

Q: What voltage do under-cabinet range hoods require?
Under-cabinet range hoods require standard 110V/120V electrical. Unlike wall ovens or cooktops, range hoods use standard household voltage. They can plug into a regular 110V outlet or be hardwired to a 110V circuit. This is much simpler than 220V appliances.

Q: What sizes of under-cabinet range hoods can you install?
We install under-cabinet range hoods in 24", 30", and 36" widths (these are standard cabinet widths). 30" is most common and matches standard 30" ranges/cooktops. 36" matches wider professional ranges. 24" is for compact spaces. Hood width should match or exceed cooktop width for effective ventilation.

Q: What is the difference between ducted and ductless under-cabinet hoods?
Ducted (external venting) hoods connect to ductwork that vents cooking fumes, smoke, and moisture OUTSIDE your home. This is most effective. Ductless (recirculating) hoods filter air through charcoal filters and recirculate it back into the kitchen. Ductless is easier to install but less effective. Ducted is preferred if ductwork exists or can be added.

Q: Can you change my ductless hood to ducted (or vice versa)?
IMPORTANT: Existing venting direction (inside vs. outside) cannot be changed as part of standard installation service. If your current hood is ducted and ductwork exists, your new hood must also be ducted to the same ductwork. If you want to add NEW ductwork (changing ductless to ducted), this is an additional service with additional charges ($500-2000+ depending on distance and complexity).

Q: Can you install any brand of under-cabinet range hood?
Yes! We install all major brands including Broan NuTone, GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, and all other manufacturers. We can also install under-cabinet hoods purchased from Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, or online retailers.

Q: Do you handle disposal of my old under-cabinet range hood?
Yes! For $25, we'll haul away your old under-cabinet range hood and take it for proper recycling. This is optional but highly recommended for complete service.

Q: How far should the hood be above the cooktop?
Standard height is 24-30 inches above the cooktop surface for gas ranges/cooktops, and 18-24 inches for electric ranges/cooktops. Height affects ventilation effectiveness - too high reduces capture efficiency, too low creates safety hazards. We install at manufacturer-recommended heights for optimal performance.

Q: What CFM rating do I need for an under-cabinet hood?
CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) measures airflow. For standard residential cooking: 300-400 CFM is adequate. For frequent cooking or high-heat cooking: 400-600 CFM is recommended. For professional-style ranges: 600-900+ CFM may be needed (often requires wall-mount or island hood). We can help recommend appropriate CFM for your cooking style.

Q: Are under-cabinet hoods noisy?
Noise is measured in sones (lower is quieter). Under-cabinet hoods typically range from 3-7 sones depending on fan speed. Low speed: 3-4 sones (quiet conversation level). Medium speed: 4-6 sones (normal conversation level). High speed: 6-7 sones (louder but acceptable). Modern hoods with better motors and insulation are quieter.

Q: What is a convertible under-cabinet hood?
Convertible hoods can be installed as either ducted (external venting) OR ductless (recirculating) depending on your setup. If you have ductwork, you remove the charcoal filters and connect to ductwork. If you don't have ductwork, you install charcoal filters and it recirculates. This provides installation flexibility.

Q: Do I need to replace charcoal filters?
If you have a ductless (recirculating) hood, YES - charcoal filters must be replaced every 4-6 months depending on cooking frequency. Filters capture grease, smoke, and odors. Clogged filters reduce effectiveness. Ducted hoods do NOT use charcoal filters (they have metal mesh grease filters that are dishwasher-safe and reusable).

Q: Can I plug the hood into a regular outlet?
If your hood has a power cord (not hardwired), it can plug into a standard 110V outlet. However, the outlet should be located ABOVE the cabinets or inside an adjacent cabinet - not below the hood where it's visible or could get greasy. Many installations are hardwired (direct electrical connection with no plug) for a cleaner look.

Q: What are smart features on under-cabinet hoods?
Smart under-cabinet hoods include WiFi connectivity, allowing control via smartphone app. Features include remote on/off, fan speed adjustment, light control, cooking timer, filter replacement reminders, and voice assistant integration (Alexa, Google Assistant). Some models include automatic fan activation based on heat sensors.
